WHITE WILLOW EVENTS

Des Moines, Iowa

In the summer of 2021, I had the amazing opportunity to intern with White Willow Events. This company was founded in 2013 by Taylor Boesen and located in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout my time as an intern I helped setup, teardown, and coordinate many different events.

FINAL PROJECT

Intern Group Project

For our final project this year our internship coordinator, Tasha, decided to change things up a little. We were asked to complete a group project that would benefit the White Willow team, as well as us interns. The best way to do this was to create a rental collection or catalog, detailing all the things that clients can rent from them. These details include images of the products being used and their labels. During this project, I worked to complete the "small details, floral stands, and bases" section. I combed through the company's social medias as well as all the images I have taken over the summer. Once I had found the correct images for each product, I put it with a label. This rental collection project looks very clean and organized, which will be perfect for White Willow Events. It also allowed me to gain experience with Canva, social media, and what it takes to be a rental company

Event Internship: Body

SUMMARY

White Willow Events Internship

This summer I got the opportunity to intern with White Willow Events, a wedding and event planning company in Des Moines, Iowa. The company tends to focus more on weddings but also does other events such as surprise parties, graduation parties, bridal showers, holiday parties, and much more. White Willow Events was founded by Taylor Boesen in 2013. She is an Iowa State Alumni as well as a very talented coordinator and designer. I was able to find and apply for this internship all on CyHire.

During this internship, I got the opportunity to work on various projects and learn from the amazing White Willow Team. I have successfully set up and tore down various different events as well as assisted an exec with the coordination of multiple weddings. I was able to learn a lot about the event planning and coordinating business. As well as all the hard work and effort that goes into each event, making them unique and special.

My greatest accomplishment from my internship experience was the multiple times I was able to assist an exec member with the coordination side of events. To me, this is the most fun and interesting thing about the industry. I got the opportunity to coordinate at least 7 times, which was a great opportunity to get lots of experience and knowledge. This accomplishment was also a big honor, that the exec members saw me as a valuable coordinator. It really shows all my hard work, creativity, motivation, and overall skills as an individual in the event management field.

Another one of my greatest accomplishments throughout my time as intern would have to be navigating this industry post-pandemic. I was really excited to be vaccinated and to see events come back to their glory. It was different to see guests transition out of masks and social distancing in order to get back to normal. This was something I hadn't seen in a very long time which made me hopeful for the future of the event industry.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time as intern for White Willow Events. I have learned so much about this industry, their company, and also myself. I hope to continue using the skills and knowledge they taught me in order to be successful in my future. My next step is to continue with my next 2 years of school at Iowa State. I plan to conduct a job search and secure a full time position with an event company next summer. I know that I could not do this without the experience I received from White Willow, and for that I am insanely grateful.
